Siem Reap

Housed in a traditional Cambodian wooden house in the heart of Siem Reap’s Wat Damnak village, Cuisine Wat Damnak offers three distinct dining experiences. Downstairs, the modern dining room is a stylish, air-conditioned space decorated with local artwork and handicrafts. The fan-cooled upstairs retains the wooden house’s traditional Cambodian country charm, with an ambiance that complements the menu. Outside, the softly lit garden is the perfect place to appreciate balmy Cambodian evenings, surrounded by lush tropical greenery and local herbs.

We don’t offer ‘à la carte, however, vegetarians and vegans are most welcome

Our tasting menus change regularly to ensure we make the most of Cambodia’s freshest seasonal produce and depending on the availability at the market.

*Please alert us in advance if you have any particular dietary requirements. Our regular menu may contain nuts, pork, or seafood.

However, because small amounts of garlic and chili are fundamental to Cambodian cuisine, we regret that we are unable to offer a menu that does not include those ingredients.

In addition, please note that Cambodian food contains fish sauce and other fish products in most dishes. If you must avoid fish, we recommend arranging in advance for a vegetarian menu.

Tasting menu

Cold smoked Tonle Sap croaker fish, black cabbage, wild mangosteen and charred garlic emulsion, chambok seed

 

Pickled free range chicken breast salad in pohor style with lesser ginger, crispy ambok, lemon basil, baby corn and roasted pumpkin

 

Prawn and fruits salad with tamarind and peanut dressing inspired by HRH Rasmi Sobhana “Cambodian Cookbook”

 

Pulled pork ribs with prahok and coconut milk, snakehead fish, mushrooms, puffed rice, herbs, flowers and local crudités

 

Slow cooked beef cheek soup, charred green papaya, shiny cresson, rice paddy herb, roasted oxtail broth and lime

 

Pan fried quail filet and leg confit, glazed turnip, Chinese celery, sprouts and homemade oyster sauce

 

Soursop sorbet with meringue and dragon fruit, cucumber, fresh coriander and basil seeds

Grilled eggplant and cashew nuts teuk kreung, pickled tofu, crudités, puffed rice and green chili

 

Sear candle yam and sagou with Kurata pepper, Pounded charred tomato condiment, lemon basil

 

Cauliflower and fresh rice flakes cake, cauliflower salad, basil peanuts, soy reduction and toasted spices cream

 

Caramelized palm sugar braised green papaya in a bamboo leaf, fresh green peppercorn, bean sprouts and Chinese croissant croutons

 

Green jackfruit and mushrooms jungle curry, holy basil, jack fruit seeds and yellow bean dumpling, spicy pounded mushrooms

Utterly disappointed, I had very high hopes for this restaurant and unfortunately it fell short of anything I wanted, before getting into the poor aspects of this evening out I would like to highlight the positives, initially as we walked in we were greeted with a fantastic smile and warm reception we had the meal explained to us in a fantastic way and I was pleased, after we sat down however it's the small things I started to notice. We ordered three cocktails to start the night and all fell short of what I would've expected for a fine dining restaurant, one was way too strong (ginger vodka drinks) and the other two lacked in any fulfilling flavours (mojito and Collins).

Now onto the food, first course was a nice introduction to the night with a pleasent seafood dish, the following 3 courses were the highlight of the night in my opinion, pork, mackerel and beef tounge were extremely flavourful and the flavours were balanced perfectly which gave me hope for the mains. The first main ( jungle curry) came out and honestly was close to inedible, the lime in the dish was so overpowering and there was nothing to balance the flavour out the other aspects of the dish were honestly terrible. The second main (pan fried quail and dumplings) was horrendous, I was wondering why they didn't give us a knife for how tough the quail breast was, everything on the plate was tough to eat, the mushrooms had zero flavour, the jus was like water and the greens on top seriously tasted like dishwasher detergent I couldn't finish the food.

Now onto the desserts, the first dessert was quite nice and nice combination of flavors and I really enjoyed it, the second dessert however ( churros) was really below average. The churros were blonde as opposed to golden brown, the fudge served was terrible and the coffee nibs on top tasted like coco pops. The fruit course was very average to finish the night off as well, they served too many sour fruits with a weird and confusing sweet spicy salt which was left to take back the the kitchen.

Finally onto the service as much as the staff was super friendly and nice the small things you expect from this price range of food want up to standard, they served a course while one of my friends was in the bathroom, the whole dinner felt rushed, there were no placemats or coasters on the tables and the sparkling water we had wasn't chilled so it basically heated up as the dinner progressed.

In sum, I believe this restaurant needs to reassess the menu and fine tune there services especially when they are in the same category for the Embassy in Siem Riep which I would recommend ten times over this restaurant.

We had a tasting menu this evening, a group of 6 people. The food was exquisite! Every dish was delicious! The service was impeccable. I highly recommend coming here for a fantastic meal experience. The set menus offered a choice vegetarian or meat based.

Great meal here. Very interesting and varied courses, if a little rich. Excellent use of local produce and flavours and very reasonable price for 8 courses of that quality.

Absolutely phenomenal meal. This is one of the best tasting menus I’ve done, at a bargain of a price compared to similar ones.

Unlike other places, the vegetarian option isn’t just a watered down version of the meat option here. It totally holds its own. Would highly recommend getting both and splitting if you have a party of 2 or more.

Portions were reasonable. We left comfortably full but not stuffed. And the service was impeccable.

A must try for anyone visiting Siem Reap.

Love that the restaurant able to change menu for my nuts and cheese allergies. Recommend to order both tasting menu and plant based menu, like u can try all of their dishes. The highlight is their foods gave the feel of local Cambodia in a creative way rather than Western style. Just the desserts are sour and sweet for me.
